(Metro Vancouver, BC) – Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is proud to announce Sandra Schinnerl, director of the office of international students and scholars, was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on January 20, 2013, during a formal ceremony held in Richmond.
“I am honoured and appreciative that my interest and enthusiasm for learning across cultures has made an impact in my community and I feel fortunate that I can also bring this passion into my work at Kwantlen where, with a wonderful team, I enable Canadians to experience and learn about the world and support international students as they develop a deeper understanding about Canada and Canadians,” says Schinnerl.
Through a national nomination and review process, deserving Canadians were brought forward for consideration. Nominated for her commitment to fostering cross cultural understanding, Schinnerl also promotes international education and her volunteer service creates a welcoming community for those new to Canada. In addition, Schinnerl was recognized for bringing credit to Canada through her achievements and contributions to international education.
The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a commemorative medal created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty, while at the same time, honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. The medal is awarded based on the criteria that the recipient has made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region or community within Canada, or an achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.
