Panel members may comprise representatives from Student and Judicial Affairs,
Deans, Counselling Services, Student Services, Security, Emergency Management,
and KFA.
Come and join in a series of
panel discussions and sharing of ideas about various aspects of Student Support
processes at Kwantlen, their impact on faculty members and how faculty can
utilize them. This series is aimed at providing an opportunity for All faculty
members at Kwantlen to hear about interventions and strategies available as
well as to share and discuss ways to work with students who might be having
academic difficulties.
- Describe the purpose of
implementing an Early Alert
- Describe the process for implementing an Early Alert
- Identify the support services available to KPU students
- Discuss the issues of student confidentiality and "Duty To Inform"
- Describe the historical growth of the Early Alert Program and empirical
evidence since its inception.
- Create strategies for having discussions with students on the implementation
of an Early Alert
- Identify the implications of implementing an Early Alert notice for both
students and faculty members.
- Describe the purpose, criteria,
and process for implementing a student learning contract in collaboration with
the student.
- Describe the alignment of Student Learning Contracts with Kwantlen
Polytechnic University Policy: Student Conduct.
- Describe the implications for implementing a student learning contract for
both students and faculty members
- Describe how your Faculty manages student learning contracts to support
student achievement.
- Describe the challenges or concerns with implementing a student learning
contract.
- Gain a better understanding
of KPU's philosophical approach in dealing with student conduct issues
- Describe the student conduct process for all parties involved
- Identify when to report, what to report and whom to report to
- Apply the University's Student Conduct policy (C.21) when dealing with issues
of misconduct
- Describe what is the BIT, the role they play, the philosophy of the BIT and
the process involved
- Create classroom conduct management strategies with colleagues
- Describe the appeals
process for students and faculty members
- Describe the implications of an appeal for students and faculty members.
- Discuss the various roles of parties involved in the student appeals process
such as faculty, associate dean, Dean, and appeals committee.
Participants will receive
resources during the sessions.
